Mirrors useless
24 Aug 2012 05:09
My KZ came with a set of mirrors which i imagine are not the original Kawasaki ones as they vibrate so much i cant actually see anything.
Do the real NOS ones actually work?
It's just i can see a set on Ebay for over $100 bucks and i'm not shelling out on them if they are as useless as the pair i have.

The stock mirrors on my 81 KZ650 generally don't vibrate - the right side mirror occasionally does under certain rpms, though. Here's a mirror topic w a couple of KZR links.

I don't run one, but some say the Bar Snake will cut down the vibration both for the mirrors and your hands. Also check the obvious, loose motor mounts and the like.

The stock mirrors on a KZ1000 work great. These are the black colored mirrors. Any other mirror is junk. Most aftermarket are not convex glass. Without the convex glass there is no hope. Here's one of my KZ1000s to see what the mirrors look like stock. KZ650 stock chrome mirrors work, but not half as good as the KZ1000 mirrors.

Have to agree with Ron on this one, I have stock 1000 mirrors on my 650 and they work great.

You can get a set of EMGO KZ1000 lookalikes for about US$30...a genuine set of Kawasaki KZ1000 is around US$100...the genuine mirrors are superior to the EMGO mirrors, although they appear superficially similar.

+1 When I bought my KZ650 the dealer pulled the 650 mirrors off and put on the black KZ1000 mirrors. They work really well. Ed

Just on this subject, I recently bought what I thought were stock 1000 LTD mirrors for the short stems. Pulling them apart to repaint the stems I noticed the back of the mirrors are marked as "TOYO"....
would these be the standard mirror?

I have noticed more vibrations lately and engine mounts were also on my agenda.
Although the mirrors have always been useless.
Do the original ones say Kawasaki on them or are there any marking to see if they are original or not?
The glass actually moves inside the mirror housing and thats how you adjust angle of rear view. Is this the same as the originals?

No the glass does not move on the originals. You need to loosen the mounts. Sounds like you most likely have Chinese "upgrades".

On my originals the glass can be adjusted just a little by pushing in on the edge of the mirror. There are 3 rubber gizmos behind it inside the plastic shell. For anything other than a minor adjustment you must loosen the mounts as RonKZ650 stated. Ed
