Idle change with wheel turn
13 Jun 2006 05:51
The Bike Runs!!! First ride last night. Lots of smoke to start but I'm assuming it just needed to be burnt off.
ANYWAY:
I know I've seen the answer to this around somewhere but couldn't find anything when searching. The idle cranks up when I turn the handlebars all the way to the right. How should I be adjusting my accel/decel cable set-up to prevent this??? This is the one real issue I see after starting her up for the first time. My day off tomorrow has never seemed so full of potential. :woohoo:

Check this link out, about throttle cable adjusting. Similiar information is in the manual too.

From the sound of it, rather than it being a cable adjustment issue, it may be the throttle cable binding up somewhere, perhaps under the tank...
You turn the bars to the right, the idle chnages - it doesn't take much deflection of the cable to cause a noticeable change - you didn't say how much.
If the cable is being pinched, it could be locking the sheath against the core and giving it a tug.
Not a for-sure fix, but a possibility to look into...

Normally that problem is caused by improper cable routing, whenever I install new cables I always start the bike and turn it lock to lock to make sure they are routed right.

It was dark out by the time i got it started so I'm not sure on the color of the smoke. Seemed just white. I'll certainly pay attention next time if it persists. Yes, it did go away after a few minutes of idling though. *phew*
I'll definitely check the routing. I just realized I may not have lubed the accel/decel like I had intended so that's another thing.
Thanks for the tips! Will have pics soon!
