1981 1982 Kz1000

Ok I currently have a 81 kz550 that i ride daily and a buddy of mine said he has a 81 or 82 kz1000 thats has been sitting for a while it has a valve job done and some other odds and ends. I'm thinking about buying it for a winter time project but i just wanna lower the riding position a little and put inverted forks on it. And maybe a little wider tires like on a zx9 or something. But any advice on what kinda forks to get would be much appreaciated. And as of course i'm not rich so i'm gonna go the cheaper route. Thanks in advance
