650r wheels on 77 kz750
16 Jul 2012 14:22
Hey guys I have one of my friend selling his 650r wheels with rotors for a very good price. How much of a pain will it be to fit them on my kz750. Im a noob at this so just want to know some information on parts I would need and about how much would it cost. The wheels come with new rotors and tires. I need new rotors and tires on my kz.Thanks for any information.

You will either learn a lot - or pay somebody to fix it for you in the end
Going from 18/19 in wheels to a pair of 17 in wheels will be challenging on its own and you will at least need a new front fender. Then you must machine adapters to fit the brake calipers - you'll need them and the master pump from the 650r as well - so they match up with the discs and your fork. Then it's a question of getting the same going on the rear PLUS ligning up the chain properly without getting wheels out of line. Which can prove impossible since the rear wheel is much wider on the 650r.
My advice? Stick with what you have and get a new/used disc for it. Or buy a more modern bike. Or learn what's needed to know.

Thanks for your input I think I will take your advice. But on another note do you know any sites that sell wheels that will fit my stock kz ? Or would it be easier to fit zx6r wheels?

Others here can probably confirm with 100% certainty, but I'm pretty sure that you can fit wheels from the Z1/KZ900/KZ1000 as well as the KZ650 to your bike without complications. If you see in the FOR SALE section, you should be able to find people parting out their bikes for spares.

I don't like the 650 rear wheel with the smaller 650 rear axle in the larger 20mm hole of the 750 twin swing arm, but a lot of people do it.

I'm with Steve on the axle issue here. If you're looking to fatten the rear up maybe search for a wider rim only but see what width of tyre will fit in 1st by removing the rear wheel & trying a tyre only to see what doesn't foul the swingarm, remember that a tyre flexes slightly when in use though too. If you find something that you like then get the appropriate sized rim only & get it laced to your hub. Your bike will not handle the same as before though.
