Anyone found a decent universal rear master?

There are a few KZ's that had rear masters that were only used on one model for one year. In my case it's the 81 kz550D1 gpz. I've found some cheap Chinese masters that may or may not fit, but I don't trust them. Are there any others? I've seen some decent priced Brembos, but can't seem to find a good fit.

The factory ones I get off ebay are pitted and leak, and there are no rebuild kits available.

I figure I can fabricate the connecting rod and reservoir if I can find a decent, readily-available master, with good spares support, that will bolt on.

I am new to the forum and in the process of getting a 1981 KZ550D GPz back on the road after 16+ years of sitting. The rear master needs to be rebuilt/replaced. Did you have any luck finding a decent replacement?

Yes. I am using an early 2000's Ninja 250 rear master. You have to fab some spacers and linkage, but it's not too hard and works fantastic. I'll post detail later when I get a chance.

here's a thread on the subject, I responded in, on the gpz550 forum. I recommend joining that forum as well, since it's more specific to your bike.

Huge help....thank you very much....I joined the GPz forum and am searching for the Ninja250 unit....cheaper than a rebuild kit even if one existed....and making the parts will be easy enough.

Here are my notes:

You want master assembly 43015-1495 / 1353
This one works well for 81 kz550D1.
Throw is about 13mm, a little shorter than the KZ550D rear master.
Bolt spacing is 49mm, same as the D1 master.
Requires two 11.0mm long, 15.8mm OD, 8.1mm ID, mounting spacers to match the KZ550D1 rear master.

Requires M8x1.25 - 40mm long bolts for mounting.

Reservoir hose must be cut down to fit frame.
Requires a 106mm long, push rod with at least 15mm of M8 x 1.25 threads on each end.
Requires an M8 x 1.25 threaded rod coupler to connect push rod to master rod.
Rebuild kit K&L 32-4228

These are the bikes to choose from.
