Rear Master Cylinder Help

17 Jun 2012 22:05 - 17 Jun 2012 22:05
#529973
The rear master cylinder on my 80 LTD 1000 needs to be rebuilt, the newest K & L catalog does not list a rebuild kit for my model. The main difference I see in the other kits in comparison to my master cylinder is the way the brake rod fits into the master cylinder. Anyone know of a source for a correct model rebuild kit.......or should I be looking for an earlier or later model year master cylinder replacement ???

Would contact Z1 Enterprises about availability.

It's sometimes feasible to refurbish a m/c without any new parts.

Good Fortune! :)

Take a look at the bottom of the page in the link below. Redline says they offer new seals for your master cylinder piston.

From what i remember the 80 is a one off sort of set up with remote resevoir ,I used that version on my z1 so it would work with my stock side covers B)

I just bought the rebuild kit for the rear master cylinder for my 81 KZ at Bike Bandit. I also found the rebuild kits for the calipers at this web site below

I guess I wasn't aware of Redline..........but wholly crap......$47.95 for the 2 cup seals, the cup seals listed above the 1980 listing were like $10 each.

That is a pretty dear price for 2 little pieces of rubber - maybe they should change their name to bike bandit. But if they have them maybe someone else does too. You may want to call the folks at www.cyclebrakes.com They do not list the rebuild kit for your rear MC, but they may be able to provide some advice on the seals if you tell them about Redline offering them. good luck, finding them anywhere else, I must have called and looked up over a 100 places, with no luck at all, ended up buying a used master cylinder on e-bay, for $40.00 & got lucky & every thing was in working order,....1980 was the only year they had that style of master cylinder, so its slim pickins for parts...if i knew about redline I would have gladly paid that price
1980 LTD 1000..,1976 LTD 900, have the 1000&900 now. the rest are previous= 1978 KZ 650 B.., 1980 Yamaha XT 500..,1978 Yamaha DT 400.., 1977 Yamaha yz 80..,Honda trail ct 70.., Honda QA 50...5-1/2 hp brigs & straton CAT chopper mini bike...3-1/2 hp mini bike (WHEN GAS WAS ABOUT 45 CENTS A GALLON)!!!!
