Well the money pit got me again! just finished doing another ton of maintenance and new parts only to fine my rear sprocket chain is toast.

Question if the teeth are broken was the chain out of alignment? Should I be getting a new chain and front sprocket?

Yes replace the set, I would get an O-ring or X-ring chain.

Replace both sprokets and chain as a new set.
Alignment may be fine, replace and align, and proper tension and lube..
What kind of driving do you do ? Sandy area ? Rusty ? Lack of care will kill these parts fast . Was rear sproket steel or aluminum ? Teeth will look like waves on the ocean when worn out bad and if not fixed the next step is broken off teeth. Go X or O ring chain for sure

Also, use a new lock washer on the countersprocket nut. Ed
