1981 KZ750 - chain missing master link lock
07 Jun 2006 17:55
I'm assuming this is true ... just got off the road wondering what that odd metallic clank was.
Discovered the chain had MUCH too much play and after tightening, discovered one link missing an outer side.
1) I'm assuming the bike is DOA until the chain is repaired;
2) Is it possible to just replace a master link locking side (sorry if the lingo is wrong)?;
3) How complicated is replacing the chain? (I haven't had the chance to get a repair manual);
4) How much would the chain run (for a DIY job) vs. having a local shop do the dirty work.
Thanks.

High quality chain from Z1 Enterprises for ~$80 (best deal I have found).
No idea what your local shop would charge, but you can bet it's a whole lot more for the same chain.

Check Jeff at
www.Z1Enterprises.com
for prices. Either replace the master link or the entire chain (...which you might consider if it is literally disintegrating). Also take a good look at both sprockets as these also tend to wear. Worn sprockets will greatly shorten the life of a new chain... = throwing money away.:) Buy a manual! In the long run, your wallet will thank you.
