BRAKE ISSUE ON KZ750 Spectre 1982! was created by Hawk111
Ok, when I got the bike the rear brakes work ok, however the front are just super weak.
There is a dual disc system on the front tire I am guessing for stronger stopping power.
How do I make these brakes work again on the front.

Also in correlation with this is front brake issue is the fact that I removed the wheels and put new tires on myself. I took the rims and had new tires put on and the old rubbers removed.

I proceeded to head back home and from there I put the newly tire mounted rims on the 750 Spectre.

For some reason when I put the discs back into the calipers the brake pads grip the discs too much and are too tight on both rear and front.

1. How do I adjust these brake pads amount of grip

and

2. How do I make the front brakes work again?

ok not sure what you mean the pads were to0 tight on both and you dont have front brakes but let me ask you this

did you crack the bleeders and spread the calipers open enought to get the wheels back on?

if not
open the bleeders and bleed brakes til pedal/lever feels right make sure you keep fluid topped off

When is the last time you flushed the brake fluid and bled the brakes? If you answer is "I can't remember" it's overdue. ;)

Hey man, I don't know where the bleeders are.

the break pads, they were just too snug on the discs I don't know why

Bleeder nipples are usually located on the calipers.

As earlier suggested, spread the pads before installing the wheel.
The pads are designed to self-adjust their position against the disc.

Fluid type is usually imprinted on top of the reservoir cap.

The original type brake fluid isn't DOT-5 silicone based fluid.

In event a previous owner has converted to DOT-5 silicone based fluid, don't mix DOT-5 silicone based fluid with any other type brake fluid.

Good Fortune! :)

Use DOT 3 or DOT 4. DO NOT USE DOT 5.
