Spoked wheels for 1981 KZ750?
28 Feb 2012 19:10
Is it possible to fit spoked wheels on an '81 KZ750? I've been looking around but haven't found anyone who's actually done this, just ideas. I need new tires and fork seals, so it would be a good time to try it.
For the front, I know some KZ900's and KZ1000's had spoked dual disc wheels. The problem is those have 17mm axles whereas mine is 15mm. I suppose the legs or maybe even the whole front end would have to be switched out to accommodate the larger axle.
If I reduced down to a single disc in the front, I think a wheel from an 80's KZ650 CSR, 70's CB750, or 70's CB550 might fit.
The rear axle on my bike is 17mm with a disc brake. If I switched out the swing arm would a rear wheel from a 70's KZ750 twin (20mm axle) fit into the existing caliper? I don't have a welder, so relocating either caliper isn't a possibility.
Interested to hear from anyone who has done this before.
