G'day guys,

so I'm showing my bike to one of the guys at work today, and he says "mate......you should get yourself a different set of bars for that thing".

I was just toying with the idea, but was wondering what kind of bars people have replaced the standards with and what looks good - any pics ? I must admit that it can be a bit tight when turning and a flatter bar might be the way to go.

A common change is to go with 'superbike' style bars (check www.z1enterprises.com for an array of styles). Superbike bars are typically 'flatter' and do not have the rise that is associated with cruiser style bars. Be advised though, that if the bars are markedly flatter, you'll have to go with shorter cables all around.

That's the kind of stuff I needed to hear - and the picture tells a thousand words - thanks.

I did try doing Google searches for pics, but the thing is I didn't really know what I was looking at. Yep, a bike may have great looking bars, but what the heck are they ? I'm a bit of a novice to bikes, so whilst it may be easy to some, I'm hopeless.

Interesting to hear able shortening cables and moving master cylinders etc.....wasn't sure how much of an issue that would be. martin_csr......that is the exact look I was after, and I think that would suit my riding position as well. Thanks again for the pic. I know what to keep an eye out for now.

Very open to other suggestions and opinions though - really appreciated.

Peter ;)

Having put over 51,000 miles on my bike I've always found the stock KZ650 bars (from the B or C models which are much lower than KZ1000 LTD bars) to be very comfortable for street use, and they don't stick up in the air. Ed

I put a new set of black euros on my 440 Ltd for about $20, and found that the stock front mc sat nice and level. The cables sit nicely too, almost made me wonder if someone had shortened them up for a similar mod at some point.

All of which was a bit of a mixed blessing, as I'd already picked up a new Brembo radial mc. The euro bars are a LOT more comfortable, although I probably would've done well to have picked up something wider. Between aftermarket mirrors, stock control housings, and mounts for a windscreen/Rooster fairing; I'm fighting for inches. Which is why I went for the new radial Brembo mc, now that I come to think of it...

Just need a decent source for some new braided cables and the whole shebang'll be sittin' pretty.

G'day again guys,

well I tried playing around with an old set of Bonneville bars just to get an idea of what kind of "look" I was after. They felt great, but.....as mentioned here earlier - the master cylinder was at an awkward angle and the hose itself was very scruntched up.

Is anyone able to tell me exactly what I'm needing to buy to make different bars fit ? Things like what type of master cylinder (it's an integral part of the lever, so what do I buy) or what bike I can use cables off so they're a bit shorter ?

I thought this may have been a common change on the bikes but after doing a few searches I can't really find any specific info. My bike knowledge is pretty limited too - hence my possibly "dumb" questions.

Thanks,
