Forks, which type is better?
22 May 2006 12:09
I'm rebuilding a 79' KZ650B and am planning to use an 86' GPz 550 front wheel (the one with the three split spokes). I have a pair of 82' GPz 750 forks and I'm looking at a pair of 82' GPz 550 forks on ebay. The 550 forks have the axle mounting forward of the forks and the 750s mount it in the center. I like the look of the forward axle forks better because it extends the front wheel out a little further, but it seems to me that a center mounted axle would allow for better handling. What are your opinions on these two types of forks, simply meaning forward and center axle forks in general?

Assuming the offset of the triple clmps is the same, the forward mounted axle will reduce trail.
