Trouble removing the pivot shaft

I removed the pivot shaft nut but the shaft it self wouldn't budge.
It's a kz1000 A2A.
The manual says it should come right out , I can't even get it to turn.
The swing arm moves up and down smoothly.
I hit it good with penetrating oil, and plan on pumping in some grease.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like it needs more than gentle persuasion. Tap the end with a hammer.. use a wood block if you need to wail on it.

I know its not a 900, but I wonder if it looks this bad in there ?

What's inside your 900 swingarm?.......

there was a picture that went along with this article, unfortunately it didn't copy.

This rusty junk is what you'd typically pull out of a stock 1973 thru 1977 900 swingarm....
Most are not this bad, but few remain in working order, the way they were intended to be.....
When new, the flanged bushings were pressed into the ends of the swingarm......
The bearing sleeves rotated inside them, and the center spacer maintained distance
between the sleeves....... Over time, the sleeves freeze up in the bushings and at that
point the arm is, for all practical purposes, without any pivot bearing at all.....
It took an hour with a sledgehammer and a blind-hole puller to get this junk out....
But once out, and the upgrade kit installed, you have a very nice setup....
WAY better than original.......

At first all I could get was about a 1/8 inch turn on the shaft back and forth
The next day I got the shaft to spin, then I started pounding on the nut with hunk of brass.
Trashed the nut but I was able to get it to move about 1/8 inch back and forth .
today I started to get more aggressive, that worked.
when I needed a drive pin ,I looked around and found a huge landscaping nail, that worked well.
It was a lot of pounding out and taping back in and it finally came out.

What a mess, I'm glad I did it, I need to replace the shaft,nut, needle bearings,sleeve
Folks grease those swing arms.

Well the races did not want to come out, but luckily I have a good friend that knows his way around a machine shop.
He was able to cut them out with a carbide bit.

The race is hardened steel, after he made his cuts on both sides ( being careful not to cut into the shaft) they cracked out pretty easily.

Everything looks good , on to the next butt rash :huh:

I have taken those apart and there would be one little dab of greese from the factory. Greese it up good befroe you install the wheel. Roy
