Need Help with Center Kickstand
09 Oct 2011 22:09
1980 LTD 1000, left foot of center kickstand is rubbing on the chain. Rear wheel and chain are installed correctly, chain still has about 50% life left. Is there a "stop" built into the center kickstand that should prevent this from happening ?? Looks like a pain to remove the center kickstand, then I'm screwed when it's time to R&R the rear wheel, chain....etc. Would be embarrassed to post photos of my temp fix.........but it works...........great conversation starter in the parking lot.

Aftermarket 4 into 1 header.....it doesn't interfere with the kickstand.

Stock left pipe is what the center stand would normally come up against. I welded a stop, up near the pivot, works great with my 4-1.

Not tonight, but I can take a few tomorrow, if you want. If you have a Mig Welder(Hot Glue Gun) it will only take 1/2 hour to remove and weld the stop. Then repaint black, and refit, done.

According to Kawasaki.com the 1980 KZ1000-B4 (LTD) did not come equipped with a centerstand. Some other 1980 KZ1000 models did have the stand. Perhaps another B4 owner can verify this. If your bike is indeed a B4 perhaps the previous owner added the centerstand but didn't think about fabricating a stop for it. Ed

My Vance and Hines 4-1 kit came with a small bar. It took me about 2 seconds to realize what it was for after installing the exhaust and pushing the bike out of the garage. It shouldn't be too hard to fab something like this out of a sturdy piece of sheet metal or steel bar (I shop at lowe's a lot lol).
Hope this helps you

The center stand comes off very easy with 2 bolts. Just take it off and when you need too use it just slip the 2 bolts back in. Looks cleaner and less weight

++1 Not to mention checking the oil level becomes a 2 person job unless you have a damn long neck  so I would be putting the centerstand on before every ride because that's when I check my oil. Also, when letting the bike idle or warm up while on the side stand the carbs aren't level so there may be uneven fuel flow. I use the centerstand 99.9% of the time. Ed
