KZ1000 lowering forks. was created by 55fbomb
I am going to be lowering my 77 kz1000 this winter, some shorter shocks with the GS swingarm and i would like to also lower the forks a good bit too. I have found in searching that other tubes can be use from 650s and 750s, is there a particular model that is the shortest, or another 1000 that had shorter tubes? mine is an a1 if that matters, thanks guys.

very interested in the same thing on a78 A2A On threar the nighthawk 550 shocks gave me bout 2 with the stock swungarm. My new aftermarket swingarm is 2" longer and has 2 spots to mount shocks (stock & about 2" back) but really would like to drop the front a little more

Instead of buying new forks, you can shorten your forks by putting in a spacer in your lower forks. Click on the link I have put in to show where you install the spacer. You can buy the spacer or you can make them yourself. You can buy them in 1" or 2" or 3" lengths to lower or shorten your forks by the same amount. You can buy these from www.schnitzracing.com among other places. Look under lowering links,blocks, straps in online catalog in the sub-catagories...

I have a set of 750 twin forks I was going to use to lower my bike.

They are actually about 1.5" sorter then the stock(KZ1000A1) forks I had.

They fit right in my KZ1000 triple clamps, and the wheel worked too.

Spacers, or limiters, are a good option because they can easily be reversed. Re Martin: I would be careful using shorter forks with the same travel because interference may occur.

I lowered the shock on one of my KX's. I used UHMW polyethelyne rod from McMaster. 2x12" rod was like $12 shipped. I just turned the spacer on my lathe. For shocks using a linkage it's basicaly a 3:1 ratio, so a 5mm spacer will drop the rear approx 15mm. since I lowered the rear, the geometry was off on the chassis so I needed to lower the forks too. I'm maxed out lowering the trees so I'm making some spacers for the forks over the winter.

To have the same spring rate you'll need to remove equal amount of the spacer from the spring seat. If you can't remove material from there then you can install shorter springs or cut the originals. Shortening the originals will give you a slightly higher spring rate though.

You will need less shock sag on a linkage system.

750 H2 2 stroke triple forks are same diameter but about 1.5" shorter than the Z1/KZ. Drop right into your trees and the caliper mounts line up too. Might check H1's as well, can't remember if they are the same. I have a set of S3 400cc. triple forks with upgraded springs/valving on my dragbike but that involves welding the Z1 stem to the lower S3 tree and using the S3 top tree as they are 34mm.

Good info guys, so 750 twins and h2s, anyone know about 650 tubes? my tubes are useable but not as nice as i would like and the seals need done anyway so if i only find a good set of shorter tubes from another bike that is fine.

I was told that the KZ650 forks are about 1 1/2" shorter and the same diameter as the KZ1000 fork tubes. I don't have any to measure but maybe some of out KZ650 riders can measure their tubes for ya.

You can also just push the fork assemblies up in the triple clamps.
