The Z1/KZ900 fender is surprisingly strong - if you check them out, they are several layers of steel and with the curvature of the fender it does stiffen the front end considerably. With the fiberglass fender I ran on my bike a few years ago, you could notice the difference - and see the stress cracks appearing in the fiberglass.

Here's the brace I put on last week... Another Ebay find. Had to modify it somewhat to fit the forks. Like it a lot.

I posted my test ride results. The fender goes back on as soon as I get it painted. The carving and forming is done, so I'll probably finish it up tomorrow. Feels a little vague with it off. I really wanted it not to, because I liked the look, but I like my new design even better!

I am fully convinced. Our roads have irregular surfaces in most of the turns. One particular s-curve was noticeabley wobbv with it off, at a speed 5 mph slower than I ususally go. I am fully convinced or I'd leave it off. It would have been easier, and I liked the look. My fender has significant reinforcement inside it, too, and it doesn't look added on...but stock. Thanks, everybody, for the inputs!
