Tire Help?

I have a cruiser tire from PO on rear of my stock '80 kz1000 ltd and now that it still has a slow leak after patching it am going to put a new tire on. Im sure there are plenty of threads in forum but I can't seem to find my answer so...
I have a 530 chain and was wondering if I could fit a 150 on the same stock rim? I'm guessing no but it looks like there is room.
If I need to keep the 140 size what sporty tire do you guys recommend? Just about anything will be better than the old squared off one on there now. Thanks much for any suggestions.

I got a KZ1000 a couple yrs. ago and the po had a dunlop on the front and a kenda on the back and they were in good shape so I decided to ride em.I finally wore done the rear tire enough to need a new one so I surfed KZR for tire info. and decided on a set of Avon Roadriders.I had them put on this weekend and man you talk about night and day from what was on there,needless to say I'm a happy camper!As far as size goes I only went one size up from the stock rims,much larger and you are asking for some issues from what I've read.Good luck and hit that "search" button for more info..

The Avon tires are the best tires I have found for the street or track since 1979 when I started using them. You do NOT want to mix and match compounds and patterns. You are taking a risk of getting "bucked" in a turn. You do not want to go much wider than the recommended tire with either. The side wall gets unstable in the turns if the rim is too narrow for the tire. If you go to the Avon web sight they will tell you the widest/narrowest rim you can use safely for every tire. The tire actually recommended for your bike/rim is a MT90 which is a 137. The 150 is the max outside limit of the with for your rim. I myself actually would not do it because it will make the bike squirrelly in the turns. If either tire is older than four years I would change both. Motorcycle tire compound dries out much faster than car tire compound and the tires get slick fast. It is actually illegal for a dealer to sell a motorcycle tire that has a date of manufacture older than 7 years.
