It makes me wonder what some people think is going to happen hitting aluminum with a wire brush! It looks like he did 3 out of the 4 corners before he stoped.

me too

...i am finding it wont stay clean as good as the stuff i have done finer...2-3 of the squares started getting dark right away and need mothers every few rides...maybe when i get em fine they will absorb less grime

Thanks, it was something I did to go with a web site I'm building for owners of the 79-80 shafty's, nothing fancy at all, just a place for keeping track of these bikes through a registry and for the owners to post their story and photographs plus who knows what, I hope to spend some time on it once the winter gets here and there's only honey do stuff around here to do!

I'll send you the code for the banner, anyone with an E1 or E2 is welcome to use it. Just click on My Profile at the top of the page here, then click Edit (kind of hard to find but is over to the right about 1/3 the way down, click on Profile Signature and add it in the signature box and then be sure you save your profile.

Edit: had to delete the code as it just would display and not list the code

Ditto x3 on the progressive sanding and finishing. One of the PO's had scarred these up badly. I started with 240 grit, then 320, then wet sanded with 600 and 1000. I used Mothers and steel wool 0000 for a first pass and then Mothers with an old sock. Takes some time, but it was worth it.
