Duelling tires, KZ1000 ST? was created by fxdl2051
From what I've been reading here lots of people like Avons on on older KZ's. Seems like a few people recommend the Avon Venoms while other like the Avon Roadriders. Any guys run both for a comparison? I've got some great twisties where I live here outside Seattle but will also be running the interstate at +80mph, oh yeah it rains 9 months out of the year here too. What tires to buy?
Thanks,
Ken

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

I have used Avon since 1979 and I love them I have used Venoms, Roadriders, AM-20/21 and Roadrunners. All four of these use the same compound and are interchangeable. The latter two are older tire patterns and ether have been or are being discontinued and are being replaced by the Roadrider. The Venom and Roadrider are close to each other. The Roadrider is closer to a Road/Street tire and a better all weather tire. The Venom leans closer to a sport tire. For an every day rider I would lean toward the Roadrider and for a good weather knee dragger I would go toward the Venom. The Roadrider will give you slightly longer tread life. The Brits have always had good rubber chemistry like the Americans. I would NEVER use an Asian tire. I have never trusted ether the Designs or Chemistry for longevity or reliability.

Yeah, here in Seattle it's usually raining, been raining or getting ready to rain. Wasn't till July 4th that we started seeing sun on a regular basis this year. Hence my desire for a rain tire.

I just bought a set of Pirelli Night Dragons: www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/31/401/1....ac=RichAutoComplete

So far, I've only put the front tire on. Probably install the rear next week when I get a chance. But the front tire seems good. Didn't have to balance it. But I haven't tried it in the rain yet. Plus, it's kind of hard to compare it to the Dunlop I had on it before because I also rebuilt my forks and installed new neck bearings.

I am tunning Dunlop Roasd Smarts. 170 read, 120 front. they were rated as the best for a sport touring tire. they are great for rain and trackk days.they have a softer side compound and harder center. i have used them for track days and can get full lean on dry dracks. being a sprt tour will make them last longer too.
