RearviewMirrors
18 Jul 2011 03:45
not exactly sure if this is the right forum but here it goes. I own a 74 Kz400 and the mirrors a believe are not stock. but the mirrors attach to the mirror stand by a ball and socket joint. and the socket is becoming lose the mirrors will not stay in place and will just slide down with out bike vibrations i was curious if there is anything that i can adjust this by putting some kind of glue or if i could take it appart and tighten some sort of clamp? or do i just have to replace the mirrors?

I don't know if they can be fixed, but here's a mirror topic in case you decide to replace them.

Both stock 1974 KZ400 mirrors are reported by kawasaki.com as "active" meaning still available from the dealership.
Lots of good info on kawasaki.com, including parts diagrams, part numbers, models sharing same part, availability, etc.
Here's a link for help with navigating the site and finding information.

Some of the stock mirrors, with a non-adjustable ball joint attachment between the plastic case and stalk, are prone to vibration and buzzy images at various road speeds and engine rpm.
Am unaware of any tightening method.
Good Fortune!

The left hand mirror part no. 56003-009 is shown by kawasaki.com as being shared on 92 models through 1990, and the right-hand mirror part no. 56002-020 on 98 models through 1991.
Yes, would be a good idea to phone the dealership, give them the specific parts numbers, and ask them to look up the parts for current availability, and the price (to compare with other sources).
Good Fortune!

Certainly not saying it can't happen, but don't recall ever seeing a stock mirror so loose that it just stays in flopped down position even while the bike is parked.
Good Fortune!
