Engine guard mounts

Working on my '83 GPz 550 today I noticed something I hadn't before ... the mounts for the engine guards are not symmetrical between the left and right sides of the bike ... they aren't even the same. I would like to check if this is proper, or if someone did a repair to one of them at some stage. They both look like they belong, so I'm not sure.

I know the bike was dropped at some point (the left engine gaurd has a dent in it and was broken (the mount had broken off, been badly welded and broken again).

The left side (damaged side) mount for the engine guard, welded in position

The right side mount, simply bolted into position

Attachment right_side_plate.jpg not found

Is the right one different to allow the engine block to be removed in that direction?

Yep its removable on one side for exactly this reason...

The welded mount is 100% correct as is the removable mount. No worries, all is well.
