Primary Chain?

Starter clutch issues on my '81 KZ 750 LTD
Replaced springs and rollers and it worked fine for a while.
Pulled the starter clutch again and replaced three stripped bolts but it's still
rattling when I hit the start button
I have a replacement starter clutch and am going to replace the whole thing this time
What about the primary chain?
It looks fine - a little loose maybe. How do I know if it should be replaced?

I suspect your 750 will be similar to my 500 in that my manual says no more than 1" of up and down play in the middle of the primary chain.Problem is it being wrapped around the crank...engine out, cases split jobbee.Best of luck.

Replace the primary chain when you commit to a complete tear down and you wont feel so bad about the job

Its not difficult, just time consuming.

Dumb question: do you mean the chain connecting the starter gear to the flywheel drive hub?

750 four, the chain connecting the crankshaft to the secondary shaft, which then spins the clutch.

OK, I thought the 81 750 LTD was a twin. It's a four.
