Are wheel seals needed ???

When converting to sealed bearings, is there a real reason to even have the seals anymore...
I can get the bearings fairly easy, but the seals would be an additional expense. I just don't know why they would be needed anymore..

Sure it helps keep the hub cleaner, otherwise dirt and water will be causing corrosion. Just think about how much harder it would be to get it a part if the snap ring is all rusted to the inner hub bore.
