rpm question

have a 1980 550 ltd in high gear 6th at about 50 mph the tac reads about 4000 rpm is this normal or do you think some one changed one or both sprokets

Don't know about the 550, but that's right for my 440. In 6th gear it's a "10" difference, i.e., 65mph - 5500rpm, 60mph - 5000rpm, etc.

took for a ride today was off on mph its 45 at 4000 rpm but what you have said guess its normal.
dont redline till 9500 on tack and what i have read top speed is about 80 mph so i guess it makes sence thanks

With everything stock, my '82 KZ650 turned 5,000 at a GPS verified 60 MPH, which is about 63 on the speedometer, for what that is worth.

I made a gearing/speed/RPM calculator for the 550's. It's in my signature. You just have to measure the rear tire circumference.

thanks loudhvx will have to measure tire and check sprokets maybe tack or speedo is off
also noticed the manual down loaded that been looking for one been to 3 bookstores now one could find it so thanks big time

loudhvx did speed/rpm calculator yea my gauges dont match so something is off speedo is allmost 5mph or tach is 3500 rpm off will have to find gps and check
