Replacing air shocks with standard.

I have an 85 ZN700-A2 and was wondering if anyone that also had air shocks in the rear has replaced them with standard oil/spring units? I am just kicking around the idea right now and there is nothing wrong with my current setup. I would just like to lower the rear about 1-2 inches but still be able to ride 2 up occasionally without bottoming out.
