I bought some clamp on pancake style air cleaners to replace the air box assembly. Could not figure out how to remove the box. Removed the battery holder assembly, but the air box still would not come out. How does one get that box out of there without tearing down the bike?

You can either remove the motor, or take off the rear wheel and fender, I've done it both ways.

They probably made it super difficult to discourage people from making the terrible mistake of going to pod filters.:woohoo:

Thanks. Yes, I would really rather keep the original set up, if new rubber tubes from carbs to box could be found. The factory rubber ones are still in use, but they are starting to crack from all that distortion and mangling when refitting them after cleaning carbs. Is there a source for them? Maybe I'm not doing a proper search. Thanks.

Hi Bikerjim,

I prefer the original intake set up over pods, too. There is an online store called Vintage Kawasaki parts (vintagekawasaki.com) The Kawasaki part number for the airbox connector is 11026-018. They are priced at $45.00 each there. That's a lot but if you need them, you need them. EBay is a good source for used ones. Some sellers list them with the airbox as a complete assembly. Make sure you ask the condition of the rubber if you are buying used ones. A temporary solution is to wrap the damaged connectors with pipe repair tape available at hardware/home improvement stores. I hope this is helpful, Tony (Happy owner of a'76 KZ750B1 and a'78 KZ750B3).
