Let me start with the82KZ305B1 CSR, as dull a creature as it may be to some. My belt died and I dont want to buy crappy looking used belts off ebay, or buy 29 year old NOS for $400. So I'm considering a switch to chain, at least temporarily. I can always switch back if I stumble into a supply of good belts.

I know people have done this on 440s (and had issues with clearing the belt guard bracket), and one person on another forum has done it an 82 305 LTD. BUt he is no longer around the forum to ask. I've heard there are differences in output shaft between belt and chain drives but I dont see that in the parts diagrams. It looks like it should be an easy switch, unless I'm missing something (which is entirely likely-I'm not very motorcycle savvy, this is my first bike). Just looking for any and all advice/suggestions I can get on pursuing this, or other options. Is it going to be an easy switch or is it going to be a PIA? How far can I/should I go from stock chain sprockets (which I think were 15t/33t) without introducing new problems?

Your best bet if no one else chimes in is on the Kawisaki twins forum.

Ah yes, thanks for that link. Now I can see the difference in output shafts that was escaping me, with the belt one having a threaded end. This should be pretty straightforward, with the only glitch being alignment of the sprockets.
