1995 GSXR 750 was created by bangshift440rt
So I did a search on this topic, and found nothing pertaining to my questions. I just found out today that my friend has a blown up 1995 gsxr750. We took the forks and swingarm off, and if I get new bearings for the steering, make a bushing for the rear and cut off the old passenger peg mounts it seems like it is going to work. mounting the twin shocks will be no problem (I weld).
Has anybody used this model year GSXR parts on a 1976 KZ900 frame? My main concern is that I can find the right bearings, find the right bushings, and find enough of an offset sprocket for the stock GSXR rim to work. I looked down where the chain would go and it looks pretty extreme. I don't want to get this stuff and cut my frame (the pass peg mounts need to be cut before the swingarm will slide into place) only to find out that it won't work. I also have somebody else about to sell me some kz1000 parts and I don't want them to go through the trouble if I can save money doing this. Thanks folks.

have you thought about just pushing the rear foot peg brackets out a little on each side to get the clearance you need?

Bangshift, that thread that you linked is my build thread. I know it's quite long, but all the suspension mounting info is in the early pages. If you have any questions about what I did, please ask. I did use the front and rear suspension from the 95 GSXR 750 on a KZ1000.

testarossa, I am taking my triple clamps in to the shop monday. I noticed my kz900 one has the stem welded in, so I was going to grind the weld out, press the stem from the clamp, press the gsxr stem out, and build up the kz stem with enough weld to machine it back to the gsxr specs so it will press right in. thoughts? For the swingarm I was going to cut the gsxr bolt to fit right between the frame rails, then add a bushing for the kz bolt and build up with either weld or using the bushing so it would fill that additional .05 on either side.

Sounds like that could work. The weld on the kz triple penetrates fairly deep. I was actually surprised by that. I hadn't cut deep enough to get past the weld, but I pushed the stem out with a 50 ton press. It didn't care that I hadn't got the weld all the way out.
I turned a bushing on the lathe that was a press fit on the kz stem and in the GSXR lower clamp. I also welded the bushing on the stem for safety after I pressed it on. I guess that welding it up and turning it back would also work. A third solution is to cut the GSXR stem off flush with the top of the clamp, and then bore the remnant of the GSXR stem so that the KZ stem is a press fit.
If you look in my thread, you can see the bushings that I made to fit the GSXR swingarm to the original KZ bolt.

Permission to vomit please. On the press, the gsxr stem popped right out, with approximately the same amount of force the kz stem folded like a wet noodle. Do any of you have a stem, or perhaps i could have the entire thing machined. Could you pm me a price if you are willing testarossa?

Just hit the button to try and figure out what happened. Unlike the 150 ton press i sometimes use that goes and stops as you press the button, this one keeps going until the motor slows. I would have been better off using the big press. What a pos design!

My memory tends to fail me this early in the morning but I believe that the KZ stem presses out from the bottom to the top. Maybe you pushed it the wrong way?

Idea, bottom of gsxr stem is 1.800 as is kz. Weld sleeve over gsxr stem and then i'll only have to pay for the top to be machined. Does anybody know the assembled distance from top of bottom clamp to bottom of top clamp?

Well I got frustrated trying to find the bottom of the weld, so I took a grinder and cut the bottom of the stem. Oddly enough it DOES come out from the top! Strange considering the force is transmitted from bottom to top on a motorcycle (apparently suzuki knows this). My machinist tells me that the stem can be straightened, so we'll see what happens.
