The dupont spray leaves a wax coating when the carrier evaporates. It is great stuff. They call it a "dry wax lubricant" but it does have teflon in it too.

I now do this and it works good: Take a rag and a jug of kerosene, while on ceterstand son the wheel and clean the gunk off. Then I take a rag and some motor oil and lube the chain up well. Let this drip off for a couple minutes while spinning to grease everything up. Then I spray the Chain Wax Otto mentioned over the motor oil, the wax dries and seals the oil in. This allows the engine oil to do the lubrication without getting full of dust and grit and is doesn't fling at all.
