SOB... Broken throttle cable and collateral damage

So, I took my carbs off to put my new APE tensioner on. Got it all buttoned back up, start it up, give it some throttle, snap. The MF'ing throttle cable breaks. Like usual, I JUST order something from Z1 and then something else breaks, so I essentially pay shipping twice...

Anyway, of course this is the first time I've had to open the throttle switch housing. Of course, the phillips screws are corroded in place and have to be extracted.

So, my question, can these bolts be picked up at a hardware store, or do I need to try and get OEM? #19 has a listed size, but #21 does not...

I don't recall anything out of the ordinary about them. I'd have to measure the ones in my aftermarket switch housing, but I don't think they are special threads/length/diameter/etc. Get stainless if your hardware store isn't like mine and only stocks the stainless standard sizes (not metric).

I think the part number includes the size; (notice part # 220B0530 is 5x30) so 220B0540 implies 5x40. If you can't find the screws locally Bolt Depot has a good selection in stainless. Ed

Ah, good thinking Ed. At work we have a sweet allen head set, but the longest M5 is 25. I was gonna see if that works for the 30, otherwise a local hardware shop is supposed to have a nice selection.

Not sure why so many bolts are phillips heads on these bikes....

Better when they snap at home then snap on the freewway, trust me! :woohoo:

Dont forget to thoroughly lube all cables and points indicated in manual - saves lives.

Yeah, that's right Ed.

If those switch housings are like my 900 then one is longer than the other. You can get those in hex head from Lowes.

Get allen if you can. On some housings, there isn't enough clearance for a hex head.
