02 May 2011 13:32
I have a 1983 kz440, bough a new front tire and got the guy to install it on the rim. I had a wood wedge in my front brake pads to stop them from squeexing togehter, fell out and now its pretty much clamped shut. When I took off the front brake the pads felll out now I cant get the damn thing back on the bike. I am supposed to go for a ride with a few guys this afternoon. its 20 degrees out and of course I cant go until this is solved. help please!

Ok, I think I understand.
Have you tried opening the master cylinder to remove the pressure from the hydraulics so you can push the piston back in?

If there are no pads or anything blocking the piston, you should be able to remove the caliper and c-clamp the piston back in. Or are you saying the entire piston popped out?
When you push the piston back in, fluid will shoot into the master reservoir, so make sure it's got its cap on. As long as the master cyclinder is not frozen, it will return to the home position, so there should be no pressure build up. The fluid is free to go to the reservoir through the internal bleed passage.

thanks to all who tried to help!
I just had to force the piston back, and one of the retaining clip tabs was broken so i had to be very careful until it was all back together so that the brake pads wouldn't fall out!
Thanks again.
