KZ 440 tires?
20 Apr 2011 22:26
New here. Picked up a 1980 KZ 440 this winter and I'm looking to clean it up as well as upgrade it a bit too. It's been "cafed" visually but it's the suspension and mechanics I'm more interested in. I have changed all fluids, rebuilt carbs, new points, battery, valve adjustment, etc... Now I'm on to suspension. It's been recommended I take it one step at a time, which I agree is sensible. So I'm going to start with tires. It currently has Chen shing (or something like that) on it but they are a little dry. Sizes are 3.00 and 3.50 x 18". Current sizes are in mm and im not sure which size to order. I would like something a tad wider, especially in the rear,. The Avons have been recommended but a I'm open to other options.
Can anyone suggest a good size and make? The bike still has stock spoked wheels.
Feel free to make rear shock and front spring/ oil suggestions too
I'm 150lbs and have no idea what spring to get for me and my bike. If ever it would be rare to have a passenger.
Thanks in advance,
Mickey

Hello, Mickey356, and WELCOME to KZr!

Would suggest fitting stock tire size on front and could increase rear tire to next larger size.
Lots of fine rubber out there (including Avon), and a plethora of opinions.
Good Fortune!

Front = 100/90 18 or 100/90 18
Rear = 110/80 18
Have you checked you fork oil?
How about the fork seals?
Shocks - Prodressives give the best bang for the buck.
I would not go any heavier than a 90/130 spring for a small 2 cyl.(twin).
