Wow! You mean I'm wasting my money putting that expensive 10,000 lb tensile strength X-ring 530 chain on my 150 rwhp ZX11??? Crap! Just think of all the money I could have saved by putting that cheap industrial #50 chain on it!

Man, I'm totally bummed out now :(

Industrial #50 chain might be ok for a 550, as long as you don't mind doing lots of adjusting as it stretches, and you lube it every day, and replace it often. But I wouldn't run it on my 750 twin, and not even on a bet on the 11

I see in the J C Whitney catalog that they carry sprockets and pre-stretched chain for motor cycles. The price seems very reasonable.

Notice I did get the x-ring? Yeah, I guess the "chain is chain" was a pretty absurd of a statement on my part. Point taken. Even if I am only putting it on a 60hp 650 transporter and not on a burner.

First you got to decide which size chain you are going with. Then match your sprockets to the size and ratio you want. Z1ent has a handy dandy calculator for ratios. Then you have to measure your rear bolt pattern for the right sprocket. Then decide on std-o ring - x ring - w ring. Then are you going to rivet or master clip. Now the really hard part starts. Mounting it. $20 for specialty pliers seems overkill but 3 smashed knuckles, 2 blood blisters and 2 tons of mental anguish later $20 don't seem too bad.

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

Thanks for the good advice. I also needed some coils so I emailed Z1 and they did not disappoint me. I will stick with what seems to work for so many of you on this forum. Z1 is Zbest!

many years ago i always ran #50 dodge industrial chain on my old yamaha yr2c 350. when the kz 650 needed a chain i thought why not? bad idea. one week old new chain snapped on my way home from work. luckily i didnt break anything or lose control of the bike. x ring chains from then on for me. when youre talking about your life buy good tires chains and brake parts and dont scrimp on any of them. saving money does you no good if your dead !! your mileage may vary...s
