'75 KZ400 speedo gear location ??

I just bought a '75 KZ400D yesterday, front spoked wheel with disc brake. Speedo isn't working. Previous owner just put on a new cable but it's the wrong length and the end is wrong, won't screw onto the speedo gear. But, I noticed the speedo gear is on the right side of the wheel. Just about every Kawi I've owned had the gear on the left side of the wheel. Can someone please tell me what side the speedo gear is supposed to be one ??

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI believe the speedo gear on the 400 A and D models was indeed on the right side of the wheel. I'm sure one of the many 400 owners here can verify this.
