160mph Speedometer

I have a 1980 Kz1000 ltd with the 80mph speedometer.... I really want to change it over to the 160mph speedo that is on 1979 and earlier kz1000's. Is it just a simple matter of buying a new speedometer and bolting it on? I am wonderring if the 160mph speedometer would read incorrectly because my bike is set up with an 80mph speedometer now? has anyone out there done this swap and know the answer to my question? Thank you for your help...

ya it goes to 0 when i stop... i dunno? maybe i really was going 60 with traffic in a 35? haha! im going to take it for a longer test drive on the interstate tomorrow. i just went out of my neighborhood real quick last night and the rain today stopped me from any further testing....

my new 160mph speedometer is deffinately off... it says i was going 95-100mph on the interstate (speed limit 55) when i was going about 70 with the faster traffic.... is there a way to calibrate the speedometer? or is it off because its from 1979 and my bike is a 1980? do i have to change the speedometer cable and drive? did i install it incorrectly?

Gorgeous bike! What are the front forks and brake calipers off of? The gold calipers look awesome on your black bike.
