Is anyone running YSS rear shocks here? I have to replace my old S&W Street Strokers later on as they are waaaay to stiff as I'm pretty light rider

(135 lbs) and I never take passengers on this bike. They have at least 3 or 4 different models but the one model I'm interested in is a nitrogen piggyback type for around $400 US. I have considered the Ohlins, Works, but @ $1,000 > $1,500 I'm wondering if the YSS are decent? The look like they are well built but hard to tell from a pic. I notice alot of Japan builders are using them on their bikes, although they are using the higher end YSS.

Thanks Doug

How about swapping to softer springs on you S&W's?

I may be interested in the S&W's. If you want to get rid of them PM me.

I know a guy who races a CB500/5 honda with YSS shocks, he sounds quite happy with 'em.

At that price i would insist on getting them with the right spring rate for your weight.

just dont expect miracles, typical twin shocks have less suspension stroke than single shock setups, so have to absorb bumps with relatively stiffer rates hence a bit of a compromise, stiff if you want controlled ride, loose if you want plush ride

other options are IKON shocks and Gazi - www.ammortizzatori.net/prodotti.htm

I'm running them and am extremely happy. They transformed the handling dramatically. Worth every penny.

mjb15- I don't think I'd be able to find lighter springs for them due to them being older models and there is no dampening adjustment on them.... my lower back is really bad at times from waaay too many motocross & freestyle skiing "gravity issues". I will send you a PM this weekend and get better pics of them. Great job on your ELR replica, replica by the way!

turboguzzi- Thanks, I wanted to keep a few things on this bike sorta original. Stock front forks, unraked, Spokes, Twin rear shocks. I'm building a 2nd KZ1000 I might just go all out with....

baldy110- Thanks, really nice work on your 650! I think I will give the YSS people a call.

^ The shocks are sold (sorry). The swingarm is a one off built ages ago. It was built using the original factory swingarm pivot tube/axle, lower shock mounts, torque arm bracket, and the wheel axle adjusters. It is 2" in length over stock. The rear wheel is a 3.5" x 18" Akront with a 160 60 18.

It is a great setup, the bike is still very nimble/flickable yet is really stable under hard straight line shifting (@ 10K). The front end is unraked with stock forks (added a fork brace) tapered steering head bearings, stock wheel, 100/90 19 tire.

Regards, Doug

thank you! i have only done a few minor mods (woodcraft clip-ons, lowered front end 2 inches, V&H exhaust, 160mph speedo, rear fender cleaned up, and rattle can paint job) and i am happy with her for now... but really need to do something with the stock suspension and brakes and would like more modern wheels/rubber as well. one day...
