fork air valves.
01 Apr 2011 02:29
sooooo working in the garage today was trying to get my forks apart from the bike. working alone was a little difficult but I managed. jacked up the front of the bike to pull the whole front end down the trees like we usually do.... but for some reason the forks would only slide out about a inch and a half below the top tree. me being awesome at pretty much everything thought it would be a good idea to use a rubber mallet to hammer the forks down the bottom tree.
so i got all the way down to about half an inch from the bottom tree and i guess i had one bad swing a i hit the air valve cap on the top of the fork. This pretty much knocked the 30 year old piece right off where the threads meet the nut.
This is the part number --> 16126-1003
So my point of posting is, Where can I get one of these? nothing on ebay that i could find searching that part number. and a couple stores i did find that show the part you cant add to cart because it says "PART OBSOLETE" wtf.
oh and its a 81 kz650 if that makes a difference.

On the Kawasaki site, if you click on the part number, then the yellow question mark "?" it will tell you what other models used this part. Print that out and head to Ebay.
When you work on front ends like that you should slightly pry the clamps loose at the pinch bolts and the fork will basically fall out. Watch your toes. Before you reassemble run a scotch brite pad inside the clamps where the fork tubes go, and spray some WD.

@kidkawie: yeah I actually thought of that this morning while still pissed about breaking it last night. I dont know why I didnt think of it then, I had to do that to get my shifter lever off. And i actually did find somewhere that had the same part for a kawi dirt bike but its 20 bucks.
@wireman: that sounds awesome except im at work all day everyday this weekend. it would be awesome if you could throw him my email (Lobstermobster@yahoo.com) and that would be good if he could do that. if not just lemme know and maybe i can hit him up on monday.
