I know that my 1979 KZ400 says 440 on side covers but frame head says KZ400*********. Frame head date says 5/79 means it a 1979. 440 wasn't put in the bikes until 10/79 calling it a early 1980. Is it possible it has a 440 or was swapped? I don't have any case numbers yet to post as its out covered up, and do not have any reference numbers to varify. Anybody have Numbers to use to know what engine is in my frame? I will post them later.

Follow this link and have your motor and frame VIN handy. On this link, all the model images are 'clickable'. Sounds like the PO just changed emblems...but you haven't posted your motor VIN.

Hello All, I located the Engine number. Left side case near chain sprocket cover. # KZ440AE013314 So now I know its a 440 but dont know whether its been changed out fromm a 400. Or an early, early 1980 as its a 5/79 maybe factory first? I'm going to check outwww.kz400.com/ModelidentificationFrameset.html
and check. Thanks for your help.
