Z1 rear shock advice needed

I know Progressive, Ohlins, Works, and KYB make some VERY nice rear shocks for the KZs and Z1s, but I don't want to pony up that kind of dough. My bike is stretched 3" and is sitting on 12" struts (I like the drag bike look) rear and is lowered 1" in the front, via moving the forks up in the trees. I'd like to run a set of shocks on the rear occasionally, especially when I'm carrying my girlfriend on the back (she has prior back issues and the struts are HELL on her). The problem is I'm afraid running a 12" shock will bottom out with a passenger on the back. Obviously, I need something with a pretty stout spring rate or good preload adjustment. I don't want to put a ton of $$$ into these because I will only use them on occasion. Does anyone have some good recommendation on a set of shocks that would work well for 2-up riding? I don't care if they are from another brand of bike, they just need to get the job done and fit. I had a friend that had the same issue years back and he said he ran shocks off a 1984 Nighthawk S, but wasn't positive  . Any help here is GREATLY appreciated.

Niche Cycle on Ebay has a bunch of different variations. Just crank the adjuster all the way. Should be about $100 for a set.

Am I blind or overlooking something? Since the website redesign, I can't find the classifieds.
