I have purchased a 1981 KZ1000 Ltd. The bike is in good shape, however the previous owner changed the meters.originally it came with electric speed sensor and speedometer, now the speedometer runs off of a cable.the wiring has been modified, and I need to bring this bike to original condition. I found a speedo, gas, tach for this bike on e-bay, as well as electric speed sensor.my question is I have spoke rims on this bike, did they have Ltd.'s with spoke wheels in 1981? or did the previous owner change wheels to adapt the speedometer cable? Thanks,Tony in Toronto,Canada.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Hello
Sounds like you have a CSR100 rather than a KZ1000 Ltd, unless the previous owner changed the wheels?
CSR1000 came with spoked wheels and cable speedometer.

Verify which model you have...there were two produced in 1981 that are very very similar...the LTD and the CSR...the CSR had wire wheels and a mechanical tach while the LTD had an electronic tach and mags wheels. On your frame VIN (look at the neck of the triple tree, not your title) the seventh digit will be either a K (=LTD) or an M (=CSR).

Thanks guys, I know the ownership says LTD. The meters are not original,so I think the previous owner changed the rims to adapt to the cable gauges that he installed and did some re-wiring as well,. I now have the proper gauges and speedometer sensor as well. Thank, Tony.

Thank you, you have been very helpful. I have ownership paper saying LTD. Bike however is half CSR as previous owner obviously did not have funds to fix the bike. I am restoring it to a LTD. Going are the spoke wheels and gauges that are on right now. I have found ooriginal electric gauges and and fuel gauge that attaches to fuel tankand the electric speed sensor and front mag wheel. Still looking for a rear mag wheel. When finished with bike I will post a picture. Thanks,Tony.

Any pics of the rims? I have a set of KZ1000 LTD Mags with Bridgestone Spitfires mounted on them. I might trade if yours are in decent shape.

Some one told me I should buy a bunch of horses once. I bought a bunch of bikes instead.
