Tube or Tubeless?

I have a 1979 KZ400H with Mag wheels and was wondering if it is supposed to have an inner-tube or not. The tires say tubeless but someone has put a tube in it. Now that front tube has ruptured and I need to fix this problem. Should I put another tube in it, or is it supposed to be tubeless?

It's probably a tubeless type rim but the tire may have had a puncture or a rim leak and they fixed it by putting in a tube. If the rim will seal tight to the bead, you don't need a tube.

I'll have the shop check up on that. I bought a proper valve stem for it but don't have the tools to remove or install a tire.

Those are tube type rims, not tubeless, compare them side by side with an actual tubeless rim and the difference would be obvious.

Every tire manufacturer strongly advises against running tires tubeless on a tube type rim, and they have hundreds of years of experience among them, so it's probably not a good idea to do so.

I'm guessing it's that ridge in the center of the rim. The spoked 18"s I have are tubed and have a similar ridge.

Should say in manual (or on some rims), and do as they say.

Yeah, I checked the wheel, it doesn't say, I should find my little manual. Thankfully the guy who sold it to me had the original booklet for it.

Oh ho ho. Thank you all for the help. This might explain some of the issues. The tube for my bike is only supposed to be inflated to ~25psi. The tire that is on it says ~40. So guess what it was last inflated to. [Sarcasm] I couldn't imagine why my tube would rupture... [/Sarcasm] Once again though, thanks for the help. I'm going to return the stem and go have the shop take care of this little problem. $35 for a tube change, including the cost of the tube, ain't bad right?
