Suspension/Fork mods for 1978 KZ1000 frame was created by 77/78 KZ1000LTD
I am new to this site and this is my 1st post. I have a 77KZ1000 ltd rigid custom that I plan on putting back into a 78 frame. My back just can't take it anymore and I want to be able to leave my kidney belt at home when I travel more that 50 miles. I have an old SBF rigid frame, HD 35mm front end and run a 150/80 16 rear wheel/tire. I would like to know what are the most current fork, swingarm mods that I can use on the 78 frame to make it handle better and still be able to use the rear tire set up. Thanks for your time!

The easiest road to what you want would be a stock frame, stock front suspension and a GS swingarm.

Even if you simply use the stock frame/swingarm/fork you will find it handles better than your current configuration. Hardtails are not known for good handling characteristics. Ed

Keep in mind that he is using a 16 inch rim.

You may be able to fit a wider tire in a stock swing arm, with the smaller rim.

If you measure from the center of the wheel to the widest part of the tire, I have a stock swingarm I can measure at that point.

If you still want to keep the style your bike is now you can use a plunger frame. Not a full rear suspension but not a hardtail either.
