Frame welding opinions, please.

I'd like those with frame repair/welding experience to chime in on whether or not this is a repairable split. To orient you, it is the bottom of a KZ1100-B2 frame at the point the side stand attaches. I have not seen the frame in person, and only have this photo...I'm considering buying the frame, but only if it can be welded. Thanks.

I'm sure it can be fixed. The way I would go about it is to progressively remove small sections of the tube on either side until I discovered solid tubing again. Then a new section of tubing will need to be welded in place. I would also weld in some strengthening slugs inside the tube at the points where the replacement tubing meets the existing frame tubes.

I hope you're getting a good deal on this frame. Are KZ1100 frames that hard to come by? If you could find a solid one it might be cheaper in the long run to get one that doesn't need to be repaired. Looks like someone with a tube bender would have to be involved.

As Plummen said, if that's the result of rust it's likely that other sections of the frame may be rusted even though the rust is not visible on the outside. If it's not rust, did it happen as a result of an accident or other impact that may have bent the frame? I've never seen a frame just split like that from normal use, but I guess anything's possible.
