I found a 1989 ZX10 today locally for cheap. a buddy of mine wants the engine and i was wondering if the front end and rear suspension and wheels would be worth grabbing for my 77 1000. the wheels arent the greatest lookin things ever but if the swingarm and fork are worth swapping over i can deal with it. anyone ever tried the swap with an older ZX? thanks for any input.

I have the manual for that bike (basic manual for my ZX11), so if you decide to do it I might be able to help.

Forks are better than what you have now, simply because they are a lot larger in diameter. I think the 89 ZX10 has a 20mm axle front and rear, but I'm not real positive, I think the rear swing arm on the ZX10 is much wider than the KZ1000, a tape measure will tell the story. Wheels are heavy, later model wheels are a lot lighter.

If you're going to all the trouble to upgrade, I'd look at something like a 98-99 ZX9 suspension.

sounds like a step in the right direction but not really a big enough step to justify the work, like you said, maybe wait and get some more modern parts. thanks.

Had to do something, my 750 twin couldn't quite keep up with my nephew's 750 Turbo. And I couldn't find a 650 anywhere, so I settled for a slower bike B)
