Help with return spring! was created by nbrider
I have a kz440, it runs perfect, but I cant figure out one thing. My rear brake won't return after being depressed. I need to manually lift the brake pedal back up. I went on ebay and bought a brake return spring as I know this is the issue (atleast I hope.. wasnt expensive anyways!). So I want to know if I need to remove the rear tire and go into the rear brake assembly or if it is a spring that attaches to the brake pedal arm.

I noticed at the top of the brake pedal, a knob like thing. Its hard to explain but it is a short rod (maybe a third of an inch) with a head on the top of it. Is this where the brake return spring should be?

Help please.

Could try kawasaki.com for some good info such as parts diagrams, part numbers, models sharing same part, availability, etc.

Here's a link for help with navigating the site and finding information.

As shown on kawasaki.com, 1980 KZ440-B1 has a return spring (see pic below, #10).

Hate to revamp the dead (this topic) but the diagram confirms that that is indeed the spring I need, but it doesnt show where the other end connects to. Not sure where is would pull to, all I know is that it needs to connect to something in the downword direction, to pull the brake back up..

Hmm.

IDK what year bike you have, but you can try Bikepics.com. alot of the images there are huge so you can zoom in on an area or DL them to your computer and zoom in on an area. Here's a 1980, that spring is horizontal and hooks somewhere behind the exhaust bracket.

Opps, here's a better pic, check the other years too..

after looking again those arent the same pedals, I see the brake light attachment now , but the attachment point for the return spring has a hole in the diagram and a stud in the photo

the attachment wouldnt be on the swingarm it would be on the frame
