1979 KZ750 Master Cylinder Advice
08 Jan 2011 19:53
I have decided to replace my beat up front master cylinder but figured I would ask for advice here before accidentally buying the wrong one.

This is the one I'm looking at, but I wasn't sure of the exact banjo bolt size as I don't have access to the bike right now. If someone could confirm that this would work with my bike, I would appreciate it. This is supposed to work with a type 10 x 1.25mm banjo bolt. Also, same as the title, I have a 1979 KZ750.

Yes 10mm is the right size banjo bolt.
Be aware that your present piston size is 1/2" (12.5mm) and the one you posted is a 14mm. So if you are still using a single caliper front disc, it's going to take more hand pressure at the lever to achieve the same braking force as you currently have. (squeeze harder to stop).
But at least the brake light switch is mounted on the master cylinder so you can ditch that junction block on the front fork.

Just in case... that seller has a variety of master cylinders, so he may have one in the correct size. If none is listed, contact him - he can probably list one.Yes 10mm is the right size banjo bolt.

Even if I were to use one with a 14mm bore, it would still be better than what my brakes were like before my rebuild. Either way, I found this
New Master Cylinder
, which has a 12.7mm bore size, fits 10x1.25mm banjo bolts, and is for 7/8" handlebars. I think that about covers it for me and it even has the correct bore! Thanks for your help!

Before buying one, be sure to note the angle of your current mc and the mount angle on the replacement. Some of them are for standard bars, others are for the Ltd style. Unless you don't mind a crooked reservoir.
