83 LTD 750 belt drive swap to 83 kz 1000P?

Hi guys,
New to site with my retired KZ1000 cop bike.
Swaping over to new tires and brakes.
So while i'm in there thought of switching to belt drive.
Will this idea work?
Anyone tried this?
Any info is good.

spockets and pulleys might swap out but the drive belt length would require some research

That would be OK with me.
I plan on just low impact cruiseing.
Not drag raceing.

Be prepared for some sticker shock. I had an 83 belt-drive 750 LTD that needed a new belt and pulleys. The price back in the day was several times the cost of converting to chain. :ohmy: Guess which way I went...

If you do pursue this with used parts, look carefully at pulleys for wear. It is not always as obvious as one might think. The lands and groves need to have fairly sharp, well-defined edges all the way across. Also be aware that you will likely need to mod or fab a new belt guard and there may be clearance issues at the frame and countershaft sprocket cover. Then there is the likelihood that the countershafts have different diameters and number of grooves, the bolt pattern on the cush drive may be different, etc....

Might be the cheapest way to get parts, I'd have bought it except for the lack of title.

The best thing is I have all winter here in Oregon to
Work on the bike before riding weather hits.
(and a dry,warm shop!)
If it looks way to spendy I will stay with chain.

When you switched from belt to chain on your ltd750 what parts did you use?
Did the sprockets just interchange from a reg KZ?
