Will 1978 1000 LTD wheels and brake rotors fit on a 1976 900 LTD ?? And visa versa
The reason I ask, is that my buddy that I went up North with and picked up the cherry 78 LTD with the Goodyears wants to swap around wheels and tires. We decided not to remove the Goodyears and possibly harm the tire from repeated removal and remounting.
I pointed out that the 1976 900 LTD uses a different wheel manf. than the later 1000 LTD's do.
So... before we take both bikes wheels off we want to make sure of this!! Since neither one has a center stand, this should be fun :S But seeing that they aren't mine... what's a dent or two on two CHERRY bikes:ohmy:
I figure we might have to use the spacers from the wheels with the wheels, and not from the bike that we are putting them on :S Lord even I'm confused at this point:blush:  :S
Now who's on first, and what's on second...
Pat

1974 900 Z1 modified to look like a LTD , some engine mods. But I still have all the original parts.

If pro is opposite of con, then what is the opposite of progress?

Pat, I have 79 LTD wheels on my KZ900 frame. I also have the triple trees, forks and brakes. The only "issue" I ran into may not apply to you... I had to weld a rear master cylinder holding bracket above the brake pedal where you LTD should already have one. You MAY need to swap brakes as well... not sure if the calipers / rotors will exchange... just don't know. The rear master cylinder meant that I had to modify my battery box so the battery would lift straight up to get it out as it would not come out from the side. I think you had best swap spacers as they are slightly different as well. The axle size is the same. The swingarm from the 79 may have been slightly wider at the pivot than a 76 and I had to do just a bit of grinding on the ends to make it fit.

Thanks George!!
I figure they should be a pretty straight forward swap. But one NEVER knows:dry:
We are hopeful it will be a easy hour job. Like that will happen:laugh:

The swap may not be that easy - just looking at part numbers, the sprocket carrier between the KZ900ltd and the KZ1000ltd is different, this suggests the hub part of the wheel may be different. Bear in mind the KZ900 used a Morris Mag, I think the 1000 wheels are Emke (not sure if all years are though).

That's the info I / we need before we dig in.
I see Bryan Entz ( spelled it wrong I'm sure ) has a set of 1976 900 LTD wheels up on ebay... this might still work out with enough $$$$
Thanks for all the help, Steve and I really are thankful!
