KZ900 rear wheel on KZ1000
19 Nov 2010 18:29
Will the sprocket carrier from my 1000 wheel fit in the 900 hub? i want to change my rear wheel over to a drum setup and found a wheel but it has no sprocket carrier. just wondered if they are the same or if i need a 900 one. thanks.

They are different.
Are you changing swing arms at the same time? The brake torque bars mount differently.

Yeah, im swappin to a GS arm so the mount will have to be flipped to the bottom. my stock disc setup sucks, not sure if mine just needs rebuilt or they are all kinda weak but i found a good price on a wide rear wheel but its a 900 hub. i guess i will be looking for a 900 sprocket carrier too. and figuring out a linkage to run the drum. thanks.

I don't use the rear brake very often, but I'm pretty sure if you think the disc setup is weak, you're gonna hate that drum.

Yes your disc probally did not work right.
The drum works fine for street use. If the drum lining is not wore out.
Make up some threaded rod with heim joints.
Parts are easy to find on ebay for the drum wheel.
Here is what I did for a drum KZ900

i messed around a little bit with the rear disc and everything seems to be in working order, it just doesnt work very good, seems to have a lot less stopping power than the drums on my CB750s, but mine are a bit lighter than stock too, so that might account for something. i do like the heim joints, that looks real clean man.

Perhaps the pads were overheated (possibly from brakes dragging for whatever reason) and are now crystallized....my stock disc setup sucks, not sure if mine just needs rebuilt or they are all kinda weak....

i think im going to keep my disc setup for now, all i really need to do is figure out how im going to get the clevis at the bottom of the master cylinder push rod to stop hitting the swingarm and cut some new wheel spacers. The rear brake lever would barely turn on the shaft even after i unhooked everything so that may have been some of my problem also, once i cleaned it up it moved fine. i love buying stuff that has sat around for 10 years lol. thanks guys.

Take a picture of the problem area. Some one might have used the wrong part. Roy
