I am trying to replace the oil in my forks and the book doesnt list the amount of oil to put in. You are suppose to messure amount of oil in the forks until it reaches a certain amount of measurement. I need to know the amount and wether the forks should be extended or compressed.

thanks

I have similar information.
But nothing is listed for the 83 LTD Shaft (L1)
Some ol' timer probably knows this and I am hoping to stumble upon him...
I dont know enough about bikes to make an informed decision.

I actually drained the left side. measured the right side fully extended with spring removed. Put that same amount in left. then drained right and put same measurement in.

I still want to know measurement that way i know if it is low or not.

thanks

For more consistency, fork fluid level is imo best measured with front end suspended.

Once the correct volume is achieved, would suggest fashioning a dip-stick (from a slim wood dowel or whatever) marked to show distance between fluid level and top of fork tube with springs remaining inside. This helps eliminate future need to measure exact volume and messiness of removing springs.

Good Fortune! :)

Might check kawasaki.com site to compare part numbers of front fork components among various 1983 KZ1100 models.

Am thinking with the same components in the working portions of the forks that the fluid levels would also be the same.

Bear in mind that a different color between otherwise identical parts will result in different part numbers (such as for example, color of lower fork tubes.)

If needed, for help using kawasaki.com,
